South Carolina Gamecocks coach, ex-Atlanta Falcons draft pick in serious car crash

University of South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson was hospitalized Friday after he was involved in a serious car crash, according to the school.

ESPN reported that the 36-year-old Robertson was hospitalized “with a significant lower leg injury.”

Robertson played defensive tackle for the Gamecocks from 2007 through 2011.

“He is currently in stable condition,” South Carolina said in a statement about Robertson. “We expect him to make a full recovery and be back out on the field soon. Please keep the families of those involved in the accident in your prayers and respect the Robertson family’s privacy during this time.”

The Big Spur’s Tony Morrell reported that Robertson was “involved in a head-on collision and had to be taken to the hospital for immediate surgery on his ankle.”

No details about the other individuals in the crash have been reported.

Robertson was selected in the seventh-round, 249th-overall, of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He was with the team into the 2014 season when he was released.

He then had stints with the Seattle Seahawks and with Washington before his career wrapped up in 2015.

The Gamecocks are slated to begin their season against Virginia Tech in Atlanta on Aug. 31.
