West Ham United have nowhere to hide after losing 5-1 to Chelsea in the Premier League on Friday.

The London Stadium hosted Enzo Maresca’s team on 22 August, with the Hammers getting off to a great start after Lucas Paqueta’s goal.

While the Irons had some hope after the Blues equalised, Niclas Fullkrug’s strike was ruled offside by VAR in the 17th minute.

It was all Chelsea from that point forward as the East London outfit’s defence looked clueless against set-pieces.

Jarrod Bowen, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Freddie Potts did not disappoint for West Ham vs Chelsea

Jarrod Bowen, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Freddie Potts may be the only Hammers players who could have left the pitch with their heads held high after Chelsea’s thrashing.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Henry Winter feels only three players emerged with their reputation intact after the debacle at the London Stadium.

The World Soccer journalist wants to see Potts being given more opportunities going forward, as the Irons seem to lack heart and desire in their team.

Winter wrote on X on 23 August: “Only Bowen, Diouf and Potts emerged with reputation intact. Why not give home-grown Potts, 21, more of a chance? He definitely cares about West Ham. It’s in his claret-and-blue blood. And the team and club need more of that heart.”

Graham Potter must make immediate changes at London Stadium

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jean Clair-Todibo had a game to forget against Chelsea after some arguably atrocious defending from the pair.

Max Kilman and Nayef Aguerd evidently weren’t any better as the Hammers had no answers for the Maresca’s team.

Diouf’s performances for Graham Potter have been encouraging so far, and it looks like the Irons have a real gem on their hands.

The Hammers have conceded eight goals in their first two games of the season.

Potter has won just five games since replacing Julen Lopetegui.

The Irons have signed four new players this summer, including two free agents.

West Ham haven’t had any success with a back-three, and it feels like the time to switch the system at the London Stadium.

The Hammers seem to lack legs and industry in the engine room, and that can potentially be changed with the inclusion of another midfielder in the starting lineup.

Fans have every right to turn against the Irons’ hierarchy, and it undoubtedly won’t be long before the pressure mounts on them to make some significant changes.
