Alisson has spoken highly of Federico Chiesa‘s proclivity to complain, as it is not about himself but rather how to “make things better for everyone.”
Chiesa was the only new addition to Liverpool’s squad last summer and played just 466 minutes across all competitions as Arne Slot put his faith in others.
An exit was expected this summer, but signs now point to him staying at Anfield, with Slot describing the No. 14 as “totally different” and “in a much better place.”
His first Premier League goal against Bournemouth saw the narrative shift on what his role can be this season, and Alisson could not speak more highly of the standards Chiesa helps set.
It involves some complaining, but of the good variety, as the Brazilian told Men in Blazers in a recent interview when discussing the Italian’s match-winner at Anfield.
“It means a lot to us when a player like him, who is not playing so often, who didn’t play as much as he wanted to play, is not in the best moment of his life, personally,” Alisson said.
“So when he comes in and he scores that goal, the satisfaction he showed us in his celebration shows a lot of his character, his personality.
“He’s a guy who works so hard every day with us, he’s always trying to help. He complains sometimes, every Italian does that, but he’s not a guy who complains in a negative way!
“He complains to make things better, to try to make things better for everyone, not only for himself, and I think he shows that nothing is impossible, that you can believe until the last second.
“I’m never happy that I concede, but I told him, ‘Seeing that you were the guy that scored the goal, I have no problem with conceding the goals!'”
There is a role for Chiesa at Liverpool this season, and the 27-year-old insisted he is happy at the club when speaking after his long overdue goal in the Premier League.
“We will talk to Liverpool, but to be perfectly honest, I am happy here,” he said when asked about his future.
“I am playing for one of the best teams in the world. I just have to wait and be ready, as I was tonight, and prove that I can play for this team.

“I repeat, the coach has treated me very well in these months.”
A football club can never have too many players who help set the standards, and that Chiesa helps to do so despite his lack of game time speaks to his character and commitment.
