According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Betis have opened talks with Manchester United for Antony’s return.
In the summer of 2022, Man United signed Antony from Ajax for a transfer fee of £82million with a further £4.27m in add-ons which was the third highest transfer fee ever paid by the club after Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.
In an interview with Fabrizio Romano before he joined the club, he said “I was very happy in Amsterdam, I won titles at Ajax, made friends and built part of my career, but now I reinforce that I am ready and full of motivation to follow my story and my dreams.”
“People need to listen to me and understand that my motivation moves me towards happiness.”
His stay at Manchester has not gone according to plan as he has made 62 appearances for the club in Premier League, providing eight G/A in three years.
He joined La Liga club Real Betis on loan in January 2025 for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The Brazilian revitalized his career at Betis, showing renewed confidence and becoming a key player for the team. He has expressed happiness with the move, stating that he “found himself again” in Spain.
He scored five times and assisted twice in 17 La Liga appearances for the Green and Whites. He also helped Betis reach their first ever European final where they suffered defeat in the hands of Chelsea.
The Red Devils have struggled to offload Antony this summer, with the 25-year-old determined to make a return to Real Betis.
As things stand, Los Verdiblancos have been unable to reach the asking price set by the Premier League side, although work is being done in this regard.
The Betis board have put pressure on Man United to come closer to Betis’ valuation of Antony, as Los Verdiblancos continue to hope that the Brazil international will make his return before the summer transfer window closes, with the Spanish side prioritising another loan agreement.
The 25-year-old has gained suitors from Saudi Arabia with Saudi Pro League clubs keen on his signature but the Brazilian has set his eyes on Real Betis.
