Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Ward impressed with the New York Giants on Thursday, and has continued to shine with a strong preseason.
The Giants scooped Ward up on August 4 after the Steelers cut him this summer, and he has put up some impressive showings. He has two touchdowns in the preseason, including an impressive 41-yard touchdown scamper on a screen pass showcasing his speed.
Ward also caught another touchdown in the Giants’ first preseason game out of the backfield on a wheel route. His receiving ability has popped for the Giants out of the backfield.
Ward played in four games for the Steelers last season, mostly on special teams. He put up five rushes for 22 yards on the season, with much of his playing time coming when others were injured.
Ward was signed by the Steelers after a rookie minicamp tryout. Known more for his speed and veteran presence, he had an impressive training camp despite suffering a hamstring injury that allowed him to make the practice squad.
Ward, an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan in the 2020 NFL Draft, has played with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans in the past.
