Girona make official Ladislav Krejčí decision amid Wolves transfer agreement

Wolves have made good progress on a deal for Girona defender Ladislav Krejčí this week, but now the Spanish club have made a decision that calls into question just how close he is to a move.

Vitor Pereira has been on the hunt for a defensive addition for some time.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi was a person of interest, but Wolves are just one of a number of clubs after his services. There were links to Jakub Kiwior who wants to move away from Arsenal, but Wolves aren’t one of the favourites in that race either.

Ladislav Krejčí emerged as a promising option, with Wolves reportedly having a bid accepted for the Czech defender.

But now, some new information has injected uncertainty into the situation.

Girona include Ladislav Krejčí in matchday squad amid Wolves links

That update from Fabrizio Romano on Thursday suggested the deal was all but done, but now Girona have released the squad list for their La Liga clash with Villarreal, with Krejčí’s inclusion suggesting it’s not completely over the line.

If he was definitely on his way to Molineux, you’d imagine he wouldn’t be available to play for Girona on Sunday.

This is a deal that has developed quickly, and it’s one Pereira will be desperate to get done.

But given the numerous failed pursuits of defenders this summer, Wolves fans won’t be getting excited until an official announcement confirms it.

Ladislav Krejčí’s versatility makes him two signings in one for Wolves

When discussing the three new signings Wolves need, most point to a defender, a midfielder and a forward as the essentials.

While Krejčí mostly operates as a centre-back, before his move to Girona, he won the award for Midfielder of the Season in the Czech league for Sparta Praha, even captaining the side.

As unconvincing as the defence has been in the last month or so, it’s still clear that the main deficiency is in the attacking areas.

Bringing in someone like Krejčí would address the former two positions, and possibly free up the cash for Wolves to make two new forward signings. But that all depends on what happens next with Girona and the 26-year-old.
