Chelsea schedule'further talks'for Simons as Leipzig chief delivers update

Chelsea are reportedly set to hold further talks for Xavi Simons, as RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer delivers an update on the player's situation.

The Blues have made an effort to bolster Enzo Maresca's attacking ranks this summer, having recruited Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

However, they are still keen to recruit two more attackers, with Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson all expected to depart before the transfer deadline.

A recent report claimed that Chelsea are confident of signing Leipzig's Simons and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho.

However, the Blues are yet to agree deals for either of the pair, meaning Simons was free to start Friday's 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Chelsea plan further Simons talks

While Simons remains an active member of Leipzig's squad, the *Daily Mail*are reporting that Chelsea are planning to hold further talks over a transfer today.

The report claims that Chelsea have been in discussions with the German club for a number of weeks, although they are yet to table a formal proposal for the Netherlands international.

There is a belief that it will take around £60m to sign a player who has two years left to run on his Leipzig contract.

The 22-year-old is keen to leave Leipzig following their failure to secure European football for the 2025-26 campaign, and he has made it clear that he only wants a move to Stamford Bridge.

Leipzig chief delivers Simons update

Meanwhile, Leipzig's sporting director has confirmed that transfer talks have taken place with Chelsea, although they will only sanction his departure at the right price.

"As of today, Xavi will stay with us," Schafer told reporters. "We’ve always said that we make all decisions based on sporting and financial considerations, and that’s why Xavi is our player and why he played today."

"The transfer market is still open. You never know what’ll happen. I can’t guarantee that 100%. Everyone knows about his ambitions. He’s also told us that.

“There have certainly been a few exchanges [with Chelsea] in recent weeks. As we saw today, Xavi was in the starting line-up. So, there has been no agreement yet. And that’s why it will remain that way for now."

Simons will hope Chelsea can finalise a move before the English summer transfer window shuts on September 1.
