Middlesbrough cast doubts on David Strelec deal as they are linked with former Juventus striker

Middlesbrough have made a perfect start to their Championship campaign after they won their first two league fixtures; however, they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Doncaster Rovers.

While Rob Edwards and fans will be pleased about the start that they made to this campaign as Middlesbrough look to make a return to the Premier League after several years away from the English top flight, there is a hope some signings could be made.

The club look like they may lose Finn Azaz to Southampton; however, they have been linked to several incomings too, particularly those in attack.

Middlesbrough have been linked with Danny Ings and more recently Ben Brereton Diaz; however, one name that excited fans was Slovakian striker David Strelec.

Now the latest development may indicate that, while Strelec’s father wished for Middlesbrough to make a move, it appears there will be no deal.

Middlesbrough make a transfer approach for Kaly Sene

Boro have identified that the area they need to strengthen is up top, and so they have been linked with several signings in this position.

David Strelec had been a name that featured heavily when a striker joining the club was mentioned; however, the decision to move for former Juventus striker Kaly Sene may indicate they are not going after the Slovakian.

According to reputable Middlesbrough news outlet Boropolis via X, the club are said to have made an approach for Lausanne-Sport striker Kaly Sene.

The 24-year-old has been in good form for the Swiss side since signing for Lausanne in the summer of 2023 from Basel.

Sene came through the Juventus youth ranks, demonstrating his pedigree before playing for the likes of Basel, Grasshoppers and Omonia Nicosia, respectively, before joining Lausanne across his short career.

Rob Edwards is keen for additional signings

The Middlesbrough manager confirmed in his press conference that the club are looking to bring in several faces before the closure of the transfer window.

He said: “We’re still working hard.

“There are a couple more areas where we still need to add a little bit more depth.

“Like I keep saying, I’m delighted with what we have in the building. The lads are giving us everything and working really hard, but clearly there’s just a couple of areas where we need to add in.

“We’re all working extremely hard on those areas, and to be fair, we’ve still got a little bit of time to make sure that we’re set and ready to go when the window closes.”
