Feyenoord star Quinten Timber is one of the names on West Ham’s shortlist in the transfer market, with the deadline quickly approaching.

Graham Potter is desperate for reinforcements at the London Stadium after a miserable start to their Premier League campaign.

His West Ham side were hammered 5-1 by London rivals Chelsea in their first home game of the season on Friday, which leaves the ex-Brighton man under even more pressure.

David Sullivan needs to back Potter with multiple additions, with just over a week until the 1 September deadline.

West Ham midfield shortlist emerges

Midfield is a huge area of concern for West Ham, as James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek, who started against the Blues, have a combined age of 60.

The Daily Mail has reported in its Sport print edition (pg 5, 23 August) that the Irons have a large shortlist for their engine room.

It states that Timber, who is the brother of Arsenal star Jurrien Timber, Rennes maestro Djaoui Cisse, Werder Bremen star Romano Schmid and Ajax ace Kenneth Taylor are amongst those on it.

Timber would be the best option for West Ham

The 23-year-old Dutchman would bring pace and dynamism to the Hammers’ midfield, something which they desperately lack at the moment.

Timber ranks very highly when it comes to duels won, key passes and progressive carries, which suggests that he could be very effective on both sides of the ball for the Irons.

Timber has 138 appearances in his senior career, and has notched a total of 37 goal contributions in those matches.

He has won five caps for the Netherlands, with zero goals for the national team in those appearances.

Potter’s engine room is crying out for fresh impetus, and Timber would bring real quality and dynamism to a side that really needs it.

The E20 outfit arguably needs two midfielders, and have been linked with Southampton star Mateus Fernandes, although their demands may ultimately put them off.

It is a positive sign that they are looking to address the area in the market, but it will mean very little if they fail to get their business done in time.
