United shift focus to Chelsea star amidst Garnacho move

This summer, there has been some massive excitement in **Manchester United**‘s transfer activity. But, there has also been plenty of heated talk about Alejandro Garnacho’s future.

At this point in time, there is uncertainty over his Man Utd future. While Chelsea were in talks, it has been reported that United tried to sneak in a move for Andrey Santos, as per Ben Jacobs.

The Brazilian youngster has had a great loan spell at Strasbourg and has returned back to the Blues for the new season. He is referred to as one of the top young midfielders. The Red Devils saw an opportunity to test Chelsea’s stance while talks about Garnacho are ongoing.

Ruben Amorim’s side had earlier lined up Brighton’s Carlos Baleba as their main target. But, the Seagulls quickly closed that door, refusing to sell this summer. With that plan blocked, Amorim turned their eyes to Santos, hoping Chelsea might be willing to talk. But, the Blues have made it clear that the player is in their plans. That said, any idea of a sale was firmly rejected.

Blues hold firm on Santos

For Chelsea, keeping Santos was never in doubt. His standout campaign in France caught plenty of attention. New boss Enzo Maresca has added him as part of his project at the Bridge.

With Baleba and Santos unavailable, United may be forced to ride the season out with their current setup. They will likely try to return to the market next year.

Author’s Opinion

United are interested in Santos which suggests they are trying to recruit an energetic youngster in the midfield. But, Chelsea’s reaction was unsurprising. Utd will have to pay lots of money if they want a real difference-maker in the middle of the park.
