Leeds United 'lead' Nottingham Forest in the transfer race to sign £30m-rated winger

Leeds United are leading the race to sign Strasbourg winger Dilane Bakwa as we head into the final period of the transfer window. That is according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports the Whites are prepared to meet the French club's valuation of the player.

Tavolieri claims Strasbourg want around €35m (£30.3m) for the 22-year-old. Nottingham Forest are also said to be big admirers of Bakwa but United are currently at the front of the queue for his signature.

Leeds Live understands Bakwa has been on the Whites' radar for some time. The former French Under-21 international joined the Ligue 1 club from Bordeaux in 2023. Bakwa, whose contract runs until 2027, contributed scored six goals and nine assists in the league last term. Regarded as a quick, direct wide man, he predominantly featured on the right of the midfield in Strasbourg’s run to the UEFA Europa Conference League places.

Bakwa has made a bright start to the new season, bagging an assist in their opening day win over Metz. The Frenchman, who can be utilised on the right or left flank, has also been the subject of approaches from Germany this summer.

Boss Daniel Farke, whose side take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium tonight, strengthened his wing options by signing Noah Okafor from AC Milan earlier this week. But the German has made it clear he is still on the look-out for more attacking reinforcements before the window closes on September 1.
