Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth.
Alexander Sorloth has reportedly told Atletico Madrid he wants out amid reported Newcastle United interest.
Signed a year ago for around £30million, the Norwegian became frustrated last season due to his patchy game time. Sorloth played a full 90 minutes just twice in La Liga last season but still scored 20 goals - including the division’s fastest-ever hat-trick against former club Real Sociedad.
As a youngster, Sorloth failed to make an impact at Crystal Palace but he has since emerged as a proven goalscorer across Europe. Turning 30 in December, the Atletico man has netted 66 times across all competitions over the last three seasons.
Newcastle United interest
The Daily Mail claim Newcastle are interested in Sorloth to solve their striker dilemma. Alternative targets have been drafted up as a move for Yoane Wissa stalled midweek, with Brentford rejecting a fresh £40million bid.

However, it should be noted that Sorloth would also be considered a replacement for Callum Wilson - not Alexander Isak. Eddie Howe tellingly told reporters yesterday that the Magpies are only in the market for a backup striker.
“We’re working hard on incomings,” Howe said. “I wouldn’t say we’re close. We still have a little bit of time but that time will go quickly as we know. “We’re in a position where the squad is in a really good place. But we’re still looking to replace Callum Wilson. That’s the big area that we’re working on.”
Alexander Sorloth wants out
Sorloth has asked to leave after a “complete breakdown” in his relationship with Diego Simeone. That is according to Jose Ignacio Fernandez, a journalist for Spanish outlet ABC, while speaking on his YouTube channel.
He claims Atletico would allow the 29-year-old to leave providing they receive the remaining transfer fee left on their balance sheet. That is thought to be around the £25million mark - which fits into Newcastle’s price bracket.

‘Active in market’ - Eddie Howe
Howe admitted Newcastle are still looking to sign players before the September 1 deadline. He said at his pre-match press conference: “We are still actively in the market but, I say all the time, that any transfer has to be right. And for a number of reasons. With PSR, you're always trying to manage that situation.
"So, if we make a signing that goes against some of the long-term planning, we can put ourselves in a very difficult position again very, very quickly. So, we have to be careful with what we do.”
