West Brom have made an approach to Rennes to sign midfielder Glen Kamara just two years after he left the Championship, according to French outlet L’Equipe.
West Brom are aiming to bolster Ryan Mason’s squad before the transfer window closes, with just over a week left to finalise their remaining business. WBA have started this season off well, with wins over Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham, but are under no illusions that there is still room to improve.
While the club remain committed to financial sustainability and profitability, the clear ambition is to push back towards the Championship’s upper end, with the play-offs seen as a realistic target.

How the Baggies navigate the transfer market in the coming weeks will be key to those ambitions, and the club now appear to be lining up a move for a former Championship standout.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, WBA are among three clubs to have made an approach to sign Glen Kamara from Rennes. Kamara joined Rennes last summer from Leeds United and spent the second half of last season with Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

Sunderland and Middlesbrough made moves to sign Kamara back in January before he moved to Saudi Arabia. Along with West Brom this summer, Bologna of Serie A and FC Copenhagen have made an approach for the Finland international.
Glen Kamara would be a great pickup for West Brom
Kamara has just one season of Championship experience to his name, but he certainly made it count. The reported West Brom target impressed heavily during that campaign.

He arrived at Leeds United from Rangers in the summer of 2023 and went on to feature 40 times for the Whites, helping them secure a 3rd-place finish. Promotion narrowly slipped through their grasp, however, as they lost 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final.
Both Sunderland and Middlesbrough would have benefited greatly from his arrival last season. Now, WBA may be the side to take advantage of Kamara’s quality at this level.

The final piece in the puzzle for West Brom?
The Baggies have had a good window so far despite not being particularly busy. Should Kamara arrive, he would only be their 6th signing of the summer.
A few fringe players have moved on, but only Torbjorn Heggem has moved on, joining Bologna for a £10m fee. It seems the likes of Isaac Price and Tom Fellows will be staying until at least January too, as their stock continues to rise.
Kamara could be the perfect signing to round off the window for West Brom. His experience and quality could fill a slight void left in the WBA side.
