Marc Guehi still isn’t a Liverpool player despite talks about his future going on since the start of June.
From the recent reports that have surfaced, it’s clear that both Liverpool and Guehi want the move to happen, but due to Crystal Palace’s lack of depth and their stubbornness on his price tag, nothing has been agreed upon yet.
The centre-back is now in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, and unless the Englishman is sold this summer, the Eagles won’t receive a fee for their captain.

However, with there now being fewer than 10 days left of the summer transfer window, things finally seem to be starting to fall into place for Guehi’s transfer to Anfield to happen.
Crystal Palace are now targeting former Liverpool target Joel Ordonez for a transfer
One of the main areas that Palace need to bolster this summer is their back four.
While their full-backs are fairly solid, they have little to no depth at the heart of their defence, and, as Oliver Glasner said, if Guehi was sold, they’d have no one to fill in.
To make matters worse, Eberechi Eze has also been moved on this summer as Arsenal managed to hijack Tottenham’s bid for the Englishman.
Now, however, as per a report from the Daily Mirror, it seems like Glasner and Steve Parish have their eyes set on a new centre-back who could be brought in to be Guehi’s replacement.

The report outlines that Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez has been added to Palace’s ‘shortlist’ with a ‘frantic finish’ to the transfer window, getting lined up.
And, even though Parish is ‘reluctant’ to sell Guehi this summer, he is now ‘prepared to listen to offers’ as they cannot afford to lose him for nothing at the end of the 2025-26 season.
This is where Ordonez comes in; for Guehi’s sale to be sanctioned, a ‘replacement’ will need to be sourced.
So, unless someone new is brought in, it feels unlikely that the transfer of Guehi will occur this summer.

Joel Ordonez would be a solid replacement for Marc Guehi
Ordonez is said to be worth around £25million, which would be a fee that likely gets entirely covered by the sale of Palace’s captain.
At the moment, Parish is demanding a fee worth around £40million for the centre-back, but since Liverpool have just signed Giovanni Leoni, they aren’t all that desperate for someone else to come in.
Guehi is mainly seen as a potential market opportunity that won’t come around all that often.
In fact, even though Palace are now the ones interested in Ordonez, last season, Liverpool were also interested in the centre-back.

Not only does this show how good the Club Brugge ace is, but it also outlines why he’d be a perfect fit for Palace.
Indeed, he may end up moving on in the future should he manage to meet his potential, but for now, selling Guehi for around £30million and bringing in his successor for less seems like the perfect way to start the 2025-26 season.
