Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old English playmaker Harvey Elliott from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Harvey Elliott is reportedly a target for Fulham as well, but a report from Football Insider has claimed that RB Leipzig are now finalising talks to secure his signature. The Englishman is valued at £40 million, and it will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga club can get the deal across the line.
Elliott is a talented young player with a bright future, but he needs regular game time to continue his development and stake claim for a berth in England’s World Cup squad. Sitting on the bench at Liverpool is unlikely to benefit him. His appearances have been restricted to cameos over the last twelve months, and moving on from Liverpool would be ideal for him.
Even though he is a boyhood Liverpool fan, Elliott needs to play regularly. If Leipzig can provide him with that opportunity, it could be the ideal destination for him. Plenty of Premier League players have moved to the Bundesliga to develop further with more opportunities, and it has worked out for them. Elliott will certainly hope that the move to Germany works out for him as well.
Fulham keen on Elliott return
Fulham are looking to add more quality and depth in the attacking unit, and they have been plotting a move for their former academy star. According to a report by Give Me Sport, the English midfielder is open to a summer exit, and Fulham were hoping to secure his signature. However, he is pushing to join RB Leipzig.
Recent reports have claimed that the Englishman has agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can recoup £40 million for the talented young midfielder. The Reds need to improve their attacking unit, and they have been linked with multiple players recently.
Ideally, Liverpool should include a buyback clause in the player’s contract so that they can bring him back to the club in future if he manages to fulfil his potential. The 22-year-old is highly rated across Europe, and there is no reason why he cannot develop into a quality player with the right guidance.
If Harvey Elliott manages to fulfil his potential in the coming season, he will have plenty of opportunities to join elite clubs in future. For now, regular game time should be his top priority.
