West Ham have turned to the transfer market to turn things around, having reportedly agreed a six-year contract with Soungoutou Magassa of AS Monaco.

Life hasn't been easy for Graham Potter following his return to Premier League management. Averaging just one point a game as manager of the Irons, as of 23/08/25, the Englishman has already made six signings in this summer transfer window, with a seventh appearing to be on the way.

Having secured the services of goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, the East London side have also signed the likes of Callum Wilson, Kyle Walker-Peters and Malick Diouf. Yet to strengthen in the middle of the park, a report from L'Equipe in France appears to reveal that this will change soon, with Monaco's Magassa edging closer to a transfer to England.

Just two games into the season, and the worries from the back end of the 2024/25 season have trickled into the current Premier League campaign for West Ham. Possessing an ageing squad of all roles and abilities, the rebuild that has been going on at the Olympic Stadium is to the bemusement of football fans all over the world.

Taking on Club World Cup champions, Chelsea, with a midfield duo consisting of Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse, the 2023 Conference League winners were defeated 5-1 by the current Conference League holders. Hoping not to field this duo again, Potter is looking to France to cure his midfield woes.

As per Emery Taisne of L'Equipe, the English side have already agreed a contract with the midfielder, described as a 'beast', with simple negotiations just remaining. A signing that would be West Ham's seventh signing of the summer, it will be their first midfield reinforcement, something West Ham fans will be delighted with.

A product of AS Monaco's academy system, Magassa has already donned Les Monegasques' iconic red and white shirt 57 times since his debut in 2022. Typically operating as a defensive midfielder, the Frenchman can also play box-to-box and even as a centre-back if needed.

Having also earned caps for France at the U21 and U23 level, the Frenchman is now looking for consistent game time following his 21 appearances in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, in which only 12 were starts. A signing that would bring much-needed youth to West Ham, fans of the Irons will hope he can come straight in and do a job if a fee can be agreed upon in the coming days.
