Theo Walcott proved completely wrong by the Friedkin Group after Everton claim - opinion

Everton’s future is looking very promising, and The Friedkin Group will be relieved that they made this decision.

This summer’s transfer window has presented a time of change for Everton, as The Friedkins are showing levels of ambition.

Everton’s £42 million Tyler Dibling signing ticks this box, and he could be the player who makes the Toffees’ future bright.

Time will tell with the 19-year-old, but the owners seem to have been making the correct decisions so far.

David Moyes coming in is of course the best one they’ve succeeded with, but Theo Walcott argued otherwise.

Theo Walcott wanted Graham Potter over David Moyes at Everton

Before the Scotsman made his return as manager, there was plenty of debate about who would succeed Sean Dyche in January.

The other name alongside Moyes that came to the fore is known well, as Graham Potter was an Everton managerial target.

Of course, Potter went to West Ham, and some fans questioned the decision after his success at Brighton.

Former Everton player Walcott was among the crowd who believed the Toffees missed out on a good appointment.

Walcott preferred Potter to Moyes, saying that he felt the former Chelsea manager would have been ‘more forward-thinking’ and could use him to ‘attract players’.

But now that time has passed, it’s clear that the former Toffees winger was completely wrong.

Graham Potter is on the ropes at West Ham and David Moyes can thrive at Everton

Looking back, Potter was told he’s better suited to Everton, but fans will be happy he actually chose to reject the Blues.

This comes after his poor start to the 25/26 Premier League season with West Ham, as he has emerged as the first manager under pressure this campaign.

With Walcott claiming the 50-year-old would have been better than Moyes, this verdict has certainly not aged well.

Not only has Moyes revolutionised the club through his management and off-field work, but the Toffees are also in a much better place, and they could have had the same situation as the Hammers at this moment if Potter had been appointed.

Adding to this, in terms of attracting players, the Scotsman has certainly had no problems in that department.

Everton’s ambitious signings this transfer window – *subject to confirmation

With the Irons now bottom of the Premier League and Moyes having the squad, the stadium, and the backing of the fans to thrive this campaign with Everton, it’s certainly not one of Walcott’s best takes.
