Director now suggests £60m star could be kept despite terms already being agreed with Chelsea

Chelsea are expected to carry out further business before the transfer deadline on Monday 1st September.

The Blues are still hoping to sign at least two players, as sources confirm to TBR Football that Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons of Manchester United and RB Leipzig respectively.

However, Chelsea are yet to agree transfer fees with both of these clubs.

Marcel Schafer – Director of Football at RB Leipzig – has now shared an update on Xavi Simons for Chelsea fans, issuing a firm warning.

Marcel Schafer suggests RB Leipzig will keep Xavi Simons if asking price is not met

After the Netherlands international played 90 minutes for RB Leipzig in a 6-0 defeat against Bayern Munich on Friday night, the German told Sky Sports: “As of today, Xavi will stay with us. We’ve always said that we make all decisions based on sporting and financial considerations, and that’s why Xavi is our player and why he played today.

“The transfer market is still open. You never know what’ll happen. I can’t guarantee that 100%. Everyone knows about his ambitions. He’s also told us that.

“There have certainly been a few exchanges in recent weeks. As we saw today, Xavi was in the starting line-up. So, there has been no agreement yet, and that’s why it will remain that way for now.”

TBR Football understand RB Leipzig want £60m for Simons – who is believed to be growing impatient as he aims to leave Germany for west London.

How Xavi Simons performed against Bayern Munich suggests Chelsea saga might be distracting him

It was a difficult night for the entire RB Leipzig side on Friday as Bayern Munich hammered them, but Simons – who Arsenal looked at – seemed to perform far below the levels we know he can reach.

Sofascore show that the RB Leipzig No.10 lost possession 11 times at the Allianz Arena, also failing to record a shot at goal while completing just one key pass in 90 minutes.

Defensively, Simons only contributed one interception.

Nobody knows except for the 22-year-old whether this transfer saga is having a negative impact on his performances, but after scoring ten goals and providing seven assists in 25 Bundesliga outings last term, he can definitely perform better.
