Leeds United have brought in nine new players this offseason, and could add a few more before the transfer deadline. The summer window closes next week, and at this time, clubs are scrambling to find deals.
It is at this point of the window where teams get to their plan Bs and plan Cs when it comes to transfer targets. Leeds had to pivot from trying to sign Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao to signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor. Not to say the latter are not good players, but looking at reports, they were not the first choice options.

Bad news for Leeds this week as they lost Ethan Ampadu due to injury. According to Daniel Farke, we may not see the midfielder till the end of the next international break. And even though the club have brought in two midfielders this summer, the injury may change plans.
James Allcott suggested on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social that Leeds could try to sign Kalvin Phillips as cover for Ethan Ampadu:
”So Kalvin Phillips I think there’s been a lot of talk about him kind of going back [to Leeds]. Obviously it’s not worked at Man City but you know it did work at Leeds.
”With Ampadu out now I think getting another reinforcement as someone who can play as that defensive midfielder.
”I think Kalvin Phillips is perfect.”
When asked if the 29-year old would be a good fit in the squad, Allcott replied.
”I think he’d be comfortable obviously you know he grew up there and and made his name there.
”And you know I don’t subscribe to this idea that like once it goes wrong once that’s the end of it.
”He is a really really talented player who eats up the ground and I think yes, okay that final year at Leeds wasn’t great, but it wasn’t great for anyone.
”So I think go back home and get going.”
A move is unlikely at this point of the transfer window
Even though Manchester City are open to him leaving, it could be a stretch to get a deal done by the end of the week. Phillips is expected to be back on the pitch in the next couple of weeks when he returns from having surgery.
He did not take part in pre-season, which would make it a risk for any club that will sign him and expect him to make an impact this season.
