Manchester City cult-hero lavishes Thomas Frank tactical ‘masterstroke’ as Tottenham silence…

BBC Sport pundit lavishes praises on Tottenham Hotspur for their incrediblevictory over Manchester City at the Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a fantastic away victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

After a solid performance against Burnley in their opening fixture of the new campaign, Thomas Frank will be thrilled by his team’s display at the Etihad Stadium. Richarlison continued his excellent run of form by supplying an inch-perfect ground pass to Brennan Johnson to give Spurs the lead in the 35th minute. Then Joao Palhinha, on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, smashed into the net via a deflection off a Manchester City player after a shocker from James Trafford in goal.

Pep Guardiola was left frustrated with the way his side conceded two easy first-half goals. The Sky Blues tried their best to unlock the visitors’ defence but they were simply toothless going forward. Spurs limited the hosts to few and far chances in between after the break and were full value for their set of three points.

English pundit praises Tottenham for sensational win over Man City

Former Man City star turned pundit Micah Richards was effusive in his praise for Tottenham’s display against Pep Guardiola’s side. He applauded Thomas Frank for his flexible approach and for nullifying City’s attacking threat for the best part of the 90 minutes.

“I thought Spurs were absolutely excellent,” Micah Richards said on BBC Sport.

“The way the head coach has been able to adapt so early in his tenure – sometimes using a back four and sometimes a five. Even bringing in in Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur today. That was a masterstroke.

“Thomas Frank’s brought a knowhow of how to see games out. They fully deserved to win today.”

Thomas Frank making quite an impression early into his Tottenham tenure

Spurs may have made some shrewd acquisitions in the form of Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha, but their best business may well be off the pitch.

After Ange Postecoglou’s controversial sacking, particularly after he ended the club’s 17-year-long trophy drought by guiding them to the Europa League glory last season, Daniel Levy decided to appoint Frank as the new Tottenham gaffer. And the Dane has made quite an impression at the club with his tactics, flexible approach, demands and man-management skills.

Richarlison looks a player reborn under the 51-year-old tactician, while the Lilywhites’ defence looks watertight. They have kept back-to-back clean sheets against Burnley and Man City and sit pretty at the top of the table for time being. This is a testament to the work Frank has done in three months- both on and off the pitch and he deserves huge plaudits for that.
