The Green Bay Packers are just days away from having to cut down their roster from 90 (91 including international pathway player Mark McNamee) to just 53. Some of the players who will be cut will be re-signed to the 16-man practice squad (17 including McNamee, presumably), but the rest will be forced to go and find work elsewhere in the NFL, in other professional football leagues, or outside of the sport altogether.
As is the case for every NFL team, there are numerous players that are on the fringe of a roster spot that may end up not making the team. Some of these players are veterans who made the team in the past, but are losing their jobs to younger players or other veterans that were brought in as free agents.
One of the Packers players that has recently been named as a possible surprising cut candidate is wide receiver Romeo Doubs. But any notion that he is in danger of losing his job was put to rest today by head coach Matt LaFleur.

Ever since the early offseason when the Packers signed Mecole Hardman and drafted both Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, there has been buzz that Doubs could be both a trade or cut candidate.
The rumors, though, were/are just that: rumors.
Earlier this week, Coach LaFleur appeared on Kay Adams’ podcast during her visit to training camp, and was asked about Doubs’ standing on the team.
“That will not happen”

“I’d be very shocked if he is ever going anywhere,” LaFleur said.
When asked why he can say that so confidently, the Packers coach replied, “Because Rome’s out there competing and doing everything that we need to see from him. Obviously, he’s played a lot of ball of us, and at a high level. He’s been a great teammate and just goes out there and you can count on him every day.”
The fact of the matter, though, is that it should not have taken these comments from LaFleur to make anyone think that Doubs is anything but guaranteed to make the 53-man roster.
Last season, Doubs was third on the team in targets with 72, only behind Dontayvion Wicks (76) and Jayden Reed (75). The difference, though, is that Doubs played in 13 games while the other two played in 17.
Truth be told, quarterback Jordan Love targets Doubs more frequently than any other pass catcher Green Bay has. The idea that he was on the trading block or a cut candidate is nothing more than lazy speculation from people who clearly do not know the Packers’ roster very well.
