“Ridiculous” – Gary Neville goes in on Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri

Leeds United got off to the worst possible start on Saturday in the Arsenal game. The Whites were 2-0 down at halftime.

Before the game, Daniel Farke said his team would not sit back and make the game easy for the Gunners. But ultimately, Mikel Arteta’s tactics were too much to handle. Arsenal dominated proceedings and Leeds barely got a sniff at goal. The absence of Ethan Ampadu was really felt, as Ilia Gruev never quite had the same effect as the Welsh international.

It was a very poor day all-round, and will certainly be a game Daniel Farke will want to forget.

There were bad performances across the pitch, but Leeds keeper Lucas Perri was singled out by Gary Neville. The Brazilian keeper made an error in the 16th minute that the former Manchester United man felt was very poor.

“Teams that come up from the Championship will not be able to play out the back against Arsenal. They’re one of the best defensive and pressing sides in the league!

“The goalkeeper had two or three warnings. Gyokeres just has to settle himself down. Maybe he’s reaching but he should do a lot better.

“That should be the final warning for Leeds, it’s ridiculous.”

The build up play from Leeds got worse as the game progressed, and the scorelined showed it.

Theo Walcott agrees with Neville assesment

Former Arsenal man Theo Walcott also chimed in on Perri’s performance in the game, saying that the Brazilian could have done better with some of the goals.

“There is question marks around the Leeds goalkeeper Perri. It goes over his shoulder and I think he should perhaps do better.

“Maybe he is not expecting the shot to come at him so fast but I think he should have done better.”

Leeds’ next game is away to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL cup on Tuesday night.
