The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to rebound from their Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2025 NFL season.
The Chiefs were thoroughly outplayed on both ends by the Eagles, though the most glaring difference was in the trenches.
Philadelphia boasted the best defensive line in the NFL, and Kansas City’s offensive line couldn’t hold up long enough in pass protection to give Patrick Mahomes a chance to throw the football downfield and make plays.
Protecting Mahomes’ blindside was of the utmost importance this offseason, and the Chiefs addressed their need by taking Josh Simmons in the 2025 NFL Draft.
To ease the pressure off Mahomes even more, the team also drafted Brashard Smith to bolster their backfield behind incumbent Isiah Pacheco.
Louis Riddick of ESPN believes the two rookies will be major contributors both in the short and long term for Kansas City.
“Josh Simmons looking like he was born to be an All Pro. Breshard Smith gonna be a real receiving threat out of the backfield. Just as it should be,” Riddick posted on X.

Simmons has been the most impactful addition by far for the Chiefs as he’s been a stalwart during training camp and preseason.
Simmons slipped in the draft due to injury concerns, but if he were healthy, he would have gone much higher in the first round.
Smith, meanwhile, was a good find late in the draft and has the look of a true third-down back.
Overall, Kansas City looks better equipped to score during 2025, and it’ll be interesting to see how much Simmons and Smith contribute.
