Report: Wolves frontrunners to sign £78,000-a-week Champions League star, talks held

Wolverhampton Wanderers have begun preliminary talks with Chelsea about a potential move for centre-back Axel Disasi, according to Caught Offside.

The defender moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023, but has struggled to make much of an impact with the Blues. He joined Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, but disappointed with the Villans and is now expected to leave Chelsea before the transfer window shuts this summer.

A number of teams are interested in his services and are weighing up a move, but according to reports, Wolves have already begun talks with Enzo Maresca's side about possibly bringing him to the Molineux Stadium.

While he's not had the best of times in London following his move to Chelsea, Disasi still has plenty of suitors interested in his services and Wolves are one of them.

The likes of Newcastle, Napoli and some Ligue 1 clubs are considering a move for the centre-back, but Chelsea are asking for around £30m to acquire him. Wolves are the only team to have actually begun talks with the Blues about Disasi, but they're still in the early stages of discussions, according to Caught Offside. Speaking about the situation, they said:

"Talks with Chelsea have already begun. Wolves are exploring creative solutions such as performance-based bonuses to complete the deal without stretching their budget."

After coming through the Reims youth team, Disasi initially made his name with the Ligue 1 club, before he joined Monaco in 2020. He spent three years with the French team, playing 129 games in the process. In 2023, they sold him to Chelsea, who spent close to £40m to bring him to England and he's been earning £78,000-a-week since, but things haven't gone to plan.

He's played 61 times in the two years following his arrival, but has fallen out of favour with Enzo Maresca. Wolves would offer him a Premier League lifeline after his loan move to Aston Villa failed to impress. Vitor Pereira's men have been interested in the defender going back to the winter transfer window. According to the report, though, he could be prepared to wait, with Bournemouth and Napoli both also said to be entering discussions with Chelsea in the near future.
