Arsenal’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium was overshadowed by a fresh injury concern, as Bukayo Saka limped off in the 52nd minute with a suspected hamstring problem.

The 23-year-old winger, who had already scored Arsenal’s second goal in first-half stoppage time to extend their lead after Jurriën Timber’s opener, pulled up early in the second half clutching the back of his left leg.

Despite receiving treatment, Saka was unable to continue and was replaced by Leandro Trossard following Martin Odegaard’s earlier withdrawal with a shoulder injury.

The sight of Saka limping off visibly frustrated has sparked concern among supporters, particularly given Arsenal’s growing injury list. His setback comes just days after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury that forced the club into a £67.5 million move for Eberechi Eze, who was unveiled to fans before kickoff.

Odegaard’s premature exit further compounded the worries on what should have been a celebratory afternoon for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Saka’s latest issue is especially troubling due to his recent history with hamstring injuries. Last season, he missed more than two months after sustaining a high-grade tear against Crystal Palace in December 2024, which required surgery and ruled him out of a crucial stretch of Arsenal’s campaign.

Once famed for his durability, playing every Premier League game in 2021/22 and 2022/23 and 35 matches in 2023/24, Saka’s recurring hamstring problems have cast doubt over his immediate availability.

Arteta is expected to provide a full update within the next 48 hours, with scans set to determine the severity of the injury. Early indications suggest Arsenal face an anxious wait to see whether their star winger will recover in time for the high-stakes clash against Liverpool at Anfield on August 31, or if he could be sidelined for weeks, repeating last season’s frustrations.
