West Ham lurch from crises on the pitch to within the management. Whether Graham Potter will still be in situ when the transfer window ends – who can tell. The outlook for head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay is looking distinctly dodgy as the signs are there that he’s about to be chucked under the bus as [David Sullivan ‘takes back control’](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-exclusive-hammers-owner-taking-charge-on-transfers/) of transfers.
Right on cue, f[ootball-italia.net](https://football-italia.net/roma-no-sancho-motivation-pellegrini-leave/) publish their article regarding former Roma captain and midfielder **Lorenzo Pellegrini** – no longer wanted in Italy – and available for a modest fee around £5 million, confirming :
_“West Ham target Pellegrini will leave: One outgoing player in the capital is Lorenzo Pellegrini, who is no longer the captain for 2025-26. West Ham have recently been linked with the Italy international, who won’t extend his contract with the club beyond 2026._ ”
They quote the Roma head coach: “_We shared the decision that we’d not extend his contract,” Massara said. T__herefore, not to lose the player on a free transfer, and also considering Lorenzo’s will, we are looking for opportunities. There are still eight days remaining”_
Apparently Pellegrini is being more modest with his wage demands now (Tick), available for £5 million (another tick) Almost thirty (D’oh.. tick) and about five years ago was a pretty excellent midfielder. Never been away from Serie A in Italy ,with his whole career as an AS Roma attacking midfielder.
Sounds a perfect pick for the West Ham Chairman then, who’ll be happy to present a former Italian international attacking midfielder to Graham Potter.
Regardless of whether he’s young enough or fast enough. Or worth anything at the end of his no doubt long, expensive contract. Plus ça change….
Feels kind of inevitable, doesn’t it.
