Graham Potter finds himself facing a lot of scrutiny after West Ham’s poor start to the season.

The Hammers lost 3-0 to newly-promoted Sunderland on the opening day of the season, then were thrashed 5-1 by Chelsea on Friday.

It has left United rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, with fans and pundits questioning whether Potter is the man to lead West Ham forward.

In a surprise to absolutely no-one, one of those pundits is Richard Keys.

Richard Keys can’t help but mention David Moyes when discussing West Ham

Keys is developing a reputation for mentioning David Moyes whenever he discusses West Ham doing poorly.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Moyes left his job as Hammers manager at the end of the 2023-24 season, but Keys seems to think it’s still headline news.

Speaking about West Ham’s poor start to the season on beIN SPORTS on Saturday, he found the opportunity to discuss Moyes again.

He said: “What a waste [getting rid of] David Moyes was. He had them competitive in the top half, European finishes, a trophy.

“They did what they do at West Ham. [Julen] Lopetegui wasn’t given much time and now Potter’s inherited a team that’s going nowhere.”

Moyes was simply not a good fit at West Ham. The Scotsman has his own problems after his Everton side were outplayed and beaten by newly-promoted Leeds last week.

That is not to say fans do not massively respect Moyes for what he did in guiding West Ham to Europa Conference League glory.

Keys’ agenda for Moyes and against West Ham needs to be investigated.

West Ham fans can only hope that poor results spark board into action.

West Ham only scored 46 Premier League goals last season, plus they sold their most creative playmaker Mohamed Kudus early in the transfer window.

Despite that, they’ve only signed one player who offers any sort of attacking threat this summer; that’s Callum Wilson, the former Newcastle striker with a concerning fitness record.

West Ham’s summer 2025 signings

West Ham’s performances against Sunderland and Chelsea were nothing short of shameful, but the fans can at least hope that they have woken up the board.

If Potter wants to stand a chance of surviving, he needs to persuade the board to splash the cash on a proven striker and another playmaker to rival Lucas Paqueta.

Without these two signings, it could be an uninspiring season at best for West Ham. At worst, they could be in serious danger of falling into the bottom three.
