Forget Nicolas Jackson - Fabrizio Romano says Aston Villa 'make contact' to sign £43m-rated…

Aston Villa have initiated contact over a shock move for a Chelsea forward, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Villa are in the market for a new attacker before the end of the transfer window and talks have been held for several targets, including a bold new option from a Premier League rival.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard and Porto attacker Samu Aghehowa have all been linked in recent days and weeks but there’s now another option that has reportedly entered the fray. Another Chelsea player, Christopher Nkunku, has emerged as a possible target for Unai Emery’s side.

Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano reports Villa have now made contact with Chelsea over a potential deal for Nkunku. Posting to his 26 million followers on X (formerly Twitter), Romano explained Villa also have Jackson on their shortlist as Emery seeks to bolster his attacking options.

Villa aren’t the only club keen on Nkunku, as Romano says Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig both hold an interest. Meanwhile, according to The Athletic, Chelsea are demanding €50 million (£43.3m) to sell Nkunku this summer. Birmingham World understands such a fee would be out of Villa’s reach this summer, though a loan-to-buy deal may be possible.

As well as Jackson and Nkunku, Marco Asensio is a player on Villa’s shortlist. Birmingham World understands talks have progressed in the past week over Asensio returning to Villa Park after his successful six-month loan from Paris Saint-Germain during the second half of last season. Although Asensio, Jackson and Nkunku are all different profiles of player, they could all feature just in behind Ollie Watkins.
