Garrett Crochet Hits Double Milestone In Red Sox Romp

Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet gave Yankee Stadium little to cheer about Saturday afternoon.

The ace southpaw delivered seven overpowering innings in a 12-1 rout of the New York Yankees, keeping the crowd quiet while his team extended its winning streak in the Bronx. Crochet scattered five hits, walked one and struck out 11, his only blemish a Giancarlo Stanton solo homer.

Boston’s offense backed its ace early and often.

Trevor Story doubled home two runs in the third, then launched his 20th homer in the fifth, capping a three-RBI day. Roman Anthony and Alex Bregman added sacrifice flies in the fourth, providing more than enough cushion for Crochet’s dominance.

The Yankees made one late push in the eighth, putting two men on with one out, but reliever Greg Weissert struck out Stanton to douse the threat. Any hopes of a rally ended for good when the Red Sox erupted for seven runs in the ninth, capitalizing on a throwing error by Anthony Volpe, a balk from Paul Blackburn and a two-run shot from Carlos Narváez.

Crochet’s performance carried extra weight beyond the lopsided score. He surpassed [200 strikeouts on the season](https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/08/23/sports/red-sox-hammer-yankees-with-seven-runs-ninth-inning-third-straight-victory/) with his punchout of Aaron Judge in the third inning, later reaching 500 for his career, as noted by Tim Healey of the Boston Globe.

According to Healey, he also became the first Boston pitcher since Eduardo Rodríguez in 2019 to eclipse the 200-strikeout plateau in a season. His record now stands at 14-5 with a 2.38 ERA.

The victory gave Boston its third straight in the series and widened its lead over New York in the Wild Card race.

Crochet’s outing left no doubt about who owned the day. Now a sweep is in play Sunday night when Dustin May (7-9, 4.59) faces Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón (13-7, 3.24).
