The Detroit Lions received a sigh of relief after their preseason finale, as head coach Dan Campbell shared encouraging news on two players who had left practice earlier in the week with injuries: center Graham Glasgow and running back/special teams ace Sione Vaki.

Glasgow Expected to Be Ready for Week 1
Campbell confirmed that veteran center Graham Glasgow avoided any serious setback.
“Glasgow should be good,” Campbell told reporters, suggesting he will be available when Detroit opens the season in two weeks.
That’s huge news for the Lions, who are already adjusting to life after Frank Ragnow’s retirement earlier this offseason. Glasgow had been penciled in as the starter at center, and his injury scare during joint practices with the Houston Texans raised concerns about Detroit’s interior depth.
Rookie Kingsley Eguakun filled in at center after Glasgow exited practice, but as of now, he hasn’t taken a single NFL snap. While the coaching staff has expressed confidence in his long-term upside, there’s no question that Glasgow’s health is crucial for Jared Goff and the Lions’ offensive rhythm in 2025.

Vaki’s Timeline Slightly Longer
As for Sione Vaki, the rookie running back’s situation appears less certain but still not alarming.
“Vaki, we’ll see. That could be a tick longer (than Glasgow), but it’s not a major thing,” Campbell said via Pride of Detroit
The second-year player, who has carved out a niche as a special teams weapon, is expected to make the 53-man roster. During camp, he had been featured heavily as one of the team’s primary kick returners alongside linebacker Grant Stuard.
While Vaki’s offensive role remains a developmental project, his value on special teams makes him a near lock to stick, even if his availability for Week 1 is in question.
The Bottom Line
The Lions dodged what could have been two serious blows to their roster. With Glasgow likely ready for the opener and Vaki only expected to miss minimal time, Detroit enters the regular season in relatively good shape.
For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, that’s the kind of injury update every fan and coach wants to hear.
