The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has yet to sign with a team this season. The 32-year-old Wentz spent the 2024 season with Kansas City.
Wentz, who has nine years of NFL experience, could be a candidate to backup starter JJ McCarthy, who was a first-round pick in the 2024 draft.
The Vikings also had veteran QBs Sam Howell and Brett Rypien and rookie quarterback Max Brosmer on the roster during the preseason. Brosmer played for the Minnesota Gophers last season after transferring from FCS New Hampshire.
Wentz played for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2023 season. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is a former Rams offensive coordinator.
The Vikings are slated to start the regular season against the Chicago Bears at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 8 in Chicago.
