Viktor Gyokeres answered his doubters in style as he struck twice and marked his first Arsenal goals with a cheeky hair-flick celebration during the Gunners’ 5-0 demolition of Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Swedish striker delivered a statement performance on his home debut, scoring just two minutes into the second half with a thunderous finish before calmly converting a stoppage-time penalty to seal a memorable brace.

His playful hair-flick after the opener was later revealed to be a pointed response to critics who had questioned his display in Arsenal’s season opener against Manchester United.

The 27-year-old came under scrutiny after a goalless 60-minute outing against United, with some supporters on social media doubting his ability to lead Arsenal’s attack. But he responded emphatically against Leeds, using the criticism as fuel.

“I know what I can do,” Gyokeres said. “I had a good chance in the first half today that I should’ve taken, but I kept going. Scoring two and helping the team win 5-0 feels amazing.”

It was also Gyokeres’ first full 90-minute appearance for Arsenal, a performance that showcased not only his clinical finishing but also the relentless pressing and attacking threat that defined the team’s display.

“We showed we can be a massive threat going forward,” he added. “The team was brilliant today, and I’m just happy to contribute.”

The Emirates crowd responded with thunderous approval, their support driving Mikel Arteta’s men to both a clean sheet and a five-goal haul. For Gyokeres, the night marked the perfect answer to his critics and perhaps the start of a prolific chapter in red and white.
