The Green Bay Packers wrapped up the Preseason with a win at home against the Seattle Seahawks 20-7. Here are five takeaways from today's game.
**The Wide Receiver Room, Matthew Golden, Malik Heath**
The headline says it all about the receiver room today. They got started early with a Willis deep ball that was thrown to rookie standout, Matthew Golden, who continued his great camp in today's Preseason game. Golden would get under the ball on an amazing adjustment by the rookie to reel in the pass. While Golden had the highlight of the game, Malik Heath is another name to bring up from this one. Heath, who never fails to show his effort, has had a rough Preseason at times. Today was a completely different story for the Wide Receiver out of Ole Miss formerly. Not only would Heath make a nice reception to extend the drive early in the game, he would also star on Special Teams today, as he recorded two tackles on punt. Heath showed his value to the Packers today, and made the decision come cutdown day that much harder for the Packers. One more name to watch is Will Sheppard on cutdown day, as well as when the Practice Squad forms. Sheppard, an UDFA out of Colorado, has been making some plays, and had his best day today. He would go on to record not only a touchdown, but multiple punt returns, showing his value at multiple positions.
**The Cornerback Room**
This was one of my things to watch for as well. The Cornerback room needed someone to step up in the battle for the fifth spot. Kalen King, as well as Kamal Hadden both had great days today for the Packers. King specifically, would record a fumble recovery, as well as some nice plays in coverage, plus a tackle. Hadden on the other hand, would be lockdown in coverage today, recording two pass breakups. This room is going to be another one to watch for on cutdown day, as well as when the Practice Squad starts to form.
**Isaiah Simmons**
This one needed its' own headline based on just how different of a player Isaiah Simmons was today for the Packers. Simmons, who had been on the roster bubble, had his best day of camp come at the best day possible. Simmons would not only lead the team in tackles today, but also make multiple good plays in coverage, as well as Special Teams. This battle between Simmons and Kristian Welch is going to be another tough decision come cutdown day.
**The Defensive Line**
This group as a whole deserved a headline. From Brenton Cox Jr, to Kingsley Enagbare, while throwing in Warren Brinson, Nazir Stackhouse, and Deslin Alexandre all played great today. Cox Jr would force a fumble, and Enagbare would recover, while Brinson and Alexandre were in the backfield all day long for the Packers. This room is making a true case to keep the one extra spot among the Defensive Tackle room.
**Ty'Ron Hopper**
Another Linebacker that deserved his own headline after a big leap from year one to year two. Ty'Ron Hopper has massively improved from last year, as he is flying all over making plays. That trend would continue today, as Hopper would force a fumble that the Packers would recover, as well as multiple good plays on Special Teams. For Hopper, he looks to continue this trend into the Regular Season, as it seems he is locked into the Linebacker four spot after today.
Roster cutdown day is on Tuesday, so expect a lot of moves by then, as the roster is cut from 90 players in Preseason, to 53 players for the Regular Season.
