Viktor Gyokeres is off the mark in an Arsenal shirt and new signing Eberechi Eze appeared to love his finish against Leeds United.
The 27-year-old was introduced to the Arsenal faithful before the game and was then regularly caught on the Sky Sports cameras watching the game from the stands. Mikel Arteta’s side put five goals past the Whites with Viktor Gyokeres getting his first goals for the club.
Seeing the Sweden international on the scoresheet is a relief for Arsenal. The former Coventry City talisman bagged 54 goals in all competitions for Sporting CP last season but there were questions over whether that would translate to the Premier League.
Viktor Gyokeres scores first Arsenal goal
Gyokeres looked to lack potency against Manchester United last weekend and had a quiet first half against Leeds United. However, shortly after the break, the striker picked up the ball on the edge of the box, pushed past the Whites defenders and bundled the ball into the back of the net.
Reacting to the finish, former Premier League star Gary Neville said: “Big, big moment. Eberechi Eze a little smile, he’ll be in that position in a couple weeks wanting his first goal for his new club.
“There’s a relief, a feeling of cool, he’s scored. When it got played in the channel you say, right, what’ve you got? It’s the first time we’ve seen him in a game and a half when he’s been able to get one on one with someone, face them up. He’s strong and comes back in on that favoured right foot. He’s powerful and he does the keeper. A huge moment for Gyokeres.”

As Neville alluded to, the cameras picked up Eze turning and a smirk spreading across his face as the talisman hit his trademark celebration. It’s an enticing picture for Arsenal supporters.
Not only will Eze have been thinking of his first goal for Arsenal, but he’ll be delighted to see Gyokeres finding potency in the Premier League - the talisman went on to bag a second from the spot in injury time. The midfielder is known for his creativity and to be able to feed a prolific striker will be a joy for him. It was a simple smirk, but you could feel it was hiding the vision of goals and assists to come in the famous red shirt.
Eze’s ability to create chances was something praised by former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott after he was confirmed to have signed. Speaking on Sky Sports, Walcott said: “He’s a big Arsenal fan, of course, and he’s had a really interesting journey, from Millwall to Arsenal. It just shows that if you keep at it, good things will come if you wait.
“I think he’s a player who now really sets the bar high for Arsenal’s player of the year. He just unlocks everything – for the defenders, for the team overall. For me, it’s exciting.”
