Iraola praises Evanilson's role in red but frustrated Cherries weren't sharper

The Wolves captain was given his marching orders by referee Thomas Bramall four minutes into the second half on Saturday as he brought the Brazilian down when he was through on goal, after a brilliant pass from David Brooks.

Asked if he felt it was the right decision to send Toti off, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I think it doesn't matter because he was already on a yellow, Toti.

Match report:

“But on the red card, I would say it is amazing play from Brooksy and an incredible first touch for me from Evanilson.

“Because it's a good pass, but just with one touch, to just leave yourself against the keeper. The perfect timing, it’s for me a very good touch. And then Toti has to make a decision. It doesn't allow Eva to finish.

“And for me, even if he hasn’t scored, Evanilson has been important today, very important.”

Despite having the man advantage, the Cherries weren’t able to kill the game off with a second goal.

“I think we were controlling the situation but we should have been more sharp because we had good moments of three against two, four against three,” he said.

“We weren't even finishing the plays. We were even losing balls in positions that we shouldn't.

“And we've still had some chances, but we were like in between sometimes because you don't want to lose your positions, you want to score the second one but you don't want to concede.

“I think the last minutes, I think we've dealt well with them, but we've had moments where probably we should be more vertical.”
