GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAW) - Packers linebacker Kristian Welch is no stranger to the lingering questions that come with roster cuts in the NFL. While Welch can soak in the Green and Gold’s 20-7 win over the Seahawks today, he can’t help but think about Tuesday. Last season, Welch found himself in a similar predicament; he gave his all and had a great preseason showing, but ultimately fell short of making the final roster. Despite that, Welch says it’s hard to compare year to year.
“Every year is so different,” Welch says. “I’ve said that before, but it’s hard to really put a finger on it. I just try to go out and take it one game at a time and put my best foot forward, and that’s the best thing I can do right now.”
Welch feels good about his contributions and performance during the overall camp, but says he’s not afraid to look in the mirror and see where he can elevate his game.
“I’ve done some good things, certainly not perfect,” Welch says. “There are always things I’m trying to improve on, like anything, but excited to just get to the regular season, hopefully here.”
Today, Welch and the Packers defense had their best show of the preseason thus far. Putting the pressure on Seattle’s quarterback Jalen Milroe, sneaking in for five sacks, and forcing four turnovers.
“It’s not even the starters a lot of times playing these games, but I think these reps are so important for not only their self-confidence, but obviously the team,” Welch says. “I’m proud of the way the guys played today.”
Now, Welch will wait to hear from his team on Tuesday, something he will do with his loved ones.
“It’s been a long, however many days we’ve had now,” Welch says, “Looking forward to having some time with my sons, my wife, and just hang out, and Tuesday will come and it’ll come and it’ll go and we’ll see what happens.”
Welch wrapped up his preseason showing tied for the most total sacks for the Packers. Regardless of what happens on Tuesday, the pride of Iola-Scandinavia can say he left his mark once again in the preseason.
