Fabrizio Romano makes 'insist' claim on £100m target Man United 'are in love with'

A roundup of some of the latest Premier League transfer rumours doing the rounds this weekend.

The final week of the summer transfer window is approaching and clubs will soon see the market firmly closed for business.

Premier League teams have been busy this summer as a thrilling season is expected to unfold. With Deadline Day now creeping into view, let’s take a look at some of the latest headlines churning out of the transfer rumour mill.

Fabrizio Romano makes ‘insist’ claim on Man United target

Manchester United are still looking to improve their squad in these final days of the transfer window but they may need to wait a while longer to secure a target both the management and recruitment team are ‘in love’ with.

The player in question is Carlos Baleba but he’s not going to be an easy target to acquire. Brighton are determined not to lose the midfielder and reportedly value him beyond the £100 million mark. United are ‘unwilling’ to pay such a price for the 21-year-old but Fabrizio Romano has provided an interesting update on the situation.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said: “I can guarantee that nothing has changed with Brighton. Brighton maintain a very high wall around Baleba, they want to keep the player for this summer. But I keep insisting that Manchester United for 2026 – so not this transfer window but for the future – will maintain the name of Carlos Baleba very high on their shortlist.

“Amorim is in love, the management is in love, the recruitment team is in love. They believe Baleba is the perfect player.”

The 3AM Verdict: With Baleba under contract until 2028, it’s hard to see Brighton budging on their hefty asking price. However, as United have targeted mostly attackers this summer, they would do well to invest significantly in other areas. If Amorim and co feel so strongly about Baleba, it makes sense for them to explore the possibility of signing him next summer. United were willing to listen to offers for every single senior player before the window opened but they are yet to see any cash sales materialise. If they trim the fat and raise some money, they could be in a position to table a serious bid for Baleba.

Ball is now in Liverpool’s court for Marc Guehi

Liverpool have been presented with a significant boost in their pursuit of Marc Guehi and the decision could now be all down to them.

As the Reds continue their pursuit of the centre-back, Crystal Palace are now extremely aware of the risk of losing him for free next year. Guehi is reportedly unwilling to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park and now, according to TBR Football, club chairman Steve Parish is ‘attempting to push’ him in Liverpool’s direction.

The report claims that Parish is ‘currently engaging in talks’ with the Reds and is holding out for the club to make a bid to sign Guehi. It will all boil down to how much he will cost, as Liverpool are reluctant to pay above £30 million, while Palace want £40 million for a sale of their star defender.

The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool have been looking for a new senior centre-back to add to their roster. While they could wait to sign Guehi next year for free, the report about Parish’s stance seems as though he is scrambling for a deal. If the Reds hit them with a reasonable counter-offer, surely Palace will be sensible and agree. The Eagles are running out of time to secure a sale and other interested clubs will likely have the same idea of trying to agree a cut price.
