Bruno Guimaraes cemented his Newcastle United legacy by captaining the club to domestic silverware in March.
Bruno Guimaraes is dreaming about “shutting the city down” by winning the Premier League at Newcastle United.
In a Sky Sports interview that Toon fans will love, the Brazilian also ranked the Carabao Cup triumph above Olympic gold with Brazil. Newcastle supporters have idolised Guimaraes since he made the big-money move from Lyon in January 2022.
The 27-year-old immersed himself in Tyneside life from day one to become an instant fan favourite. Multiple runs to Champions League qualification and captaining Newcastle to their first domestic trophy since 1955 have only cemented his legacy.
Bruno Guimaraes on Newcastle United dream
However, Guimaraes is not done yet and has issued a fresh battle cry to his teammates calling for more success. The midfielder also imagined how the city would react to the Magpies winning the Premier League.
“I think we made history,” Guimaraes said about the Wembley triumph. “The most difficult thing in life is taking the first step - and we did that.
“We showed everyone that we can be champions and we need that ambition to keep going. When we won the cup, the parade was amazing. If we win the Premier League, wow, this city would be (shut) down.”
Newcastle United fans will love this
Reflecting on his career achievements so far, Guimaraes ranked the Carabao Cup win ahead of his Brazil debut and Olympic medal. He added: “My Brazil debut I will put here (third) It was always my dream to play for Brazil but winning something is always more special than a debut, in my point of view.
“The Olympic medal was unbelievable but we didn’t have the fans because of the COVID time. To win something for my country was always my dream. I am going to put this in second place.
“And I will go with EFL Cup (in first place). After 70 years, the history behind it speaks for itself, it was my first trophy as a captain, my first trophy abroad. This moment will stick with me forever. Not just with me, but all the Geordies.”

Post-match Wembley comments
What better time to revisit a teary-eyed Guimaraes’ comments after lifting the Carabao Cup. He said at the time: "It's all for these fans. They deserve everything. When I first came here, I said I wanted to put my name in history.
"We can now say we are the champions again… I don't have any words. It's the best day of my life. For them (the fans) it's like (winning) the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions. My first year as captain of this club and it's one of the best days. This is unbelievable."
This is my second home. We are making history. Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to (Alan) Shearer. He texted me before the game. I'm so emotional today."
