AS Roma sporting director Frederic Massara has revealed that Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho lacked 'motivation' keen over a move to the Serie A side. The Englishman faces an uncertain future going into the final days of the transfer window but the winger has seemingy turned down a move to Rome.
Sancho has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan away from Old Trafford after falling out of favour with Erik ten Hag. He spent the previous campaign on loan within the Premier League at rivals, Chelsea, winning the UEFA Conference League but the Londoners paid to not trigger the obligation within the deal to sign him.
The 25-year-old was among the five players to express a desire to explore their options over a United exit.
As a result, Sancho's return to pre-season was delayed but with the transfer window due to close at the beginning of September, the winger remains at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of Roma's season opener at home to Bologna, Massara admitted that the United attacker lacked motivation over a move.
"The Financial Fair Play constraints apply to all teams, and we need to find a balance," he began.
"This happens regularly in Serie A. Roma has always wanted to strengthen its position, and it has done so in recent years, investing heavily.
"Sancho is a strong player who has been linked to all the big Italian teams.
"At the moment, he remains a suggestion because I don't think the conditions, especially the motivation, are there to pursue this negotiation."
During Friday's pre-match press conference, Amorim warned players within the 'bomb squad' that the onus is on them to land moves away from Old Trafford before the deadline a week on Monday (September 1).
Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are all still at the club ahead of the 7pm deadline at the beginning of next month.
All of the aforementioned players have been training separately to the core group at Amorim's disposal.
"I think again, I know that is not a good thing to have players in this situation," the Portuguese said.
"But it’s clear they want to play in a different club and that is clear.
"So we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, so I have to try to imagine to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future and the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter.
"When the window is closed, it’s a different history, when the window is closed, we have to receive the players and in a new life, anything can happen."
