Derby County man wanted by Premier League side Brentford

Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is wanted by Brentford, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon.

Derby County could face a battle to keep hold of the stopper between now and the end of the transfer window. DCFC have until the deadline on Monday 1st September to get any final incoming or outgoing deals over the line.

Zetterstrom, 27, is a Sweden international with one cap under his belt. He is under contract with the Rams until June 2027.

In this latest update regarding his situation at Pride Park by reporter Nixon on his Patreon, Brentford are now keen on landing him. They are said to be eyeing a £3.5million swoop as they hunt for some competition for new signing Caoimhin Kelleher, who joined the Bees from Liverpool.

He said last year, as per an interview with DerbyshireLive: “I love coming here every day. Not only is it gorgeous, but the people are so nice. It feels like coming home. I couldn’t be more happier. It’s lovely that people show love, come up to you and it really makes you feel welcome. It’s really beautiful. I’ve been to England before and I spent some time in London as a kid.”

Derby County’s Jacob Widell Zetterstrom eyed by Brentford

Derby County signed Zetterstrom last year to boost their goalkeeping department. He has since become DCFC’s number one.

The stopper joined them from Djurgården. Prior to his move to England, he made 118 appearances for his former club in all competitions.

Zetterstrom has since adapted well to life in his new country and has played 44 matches, two of which have come in this campaign. The Rams managed to stay up on the final day of last term in the Championship under the guidance of John Eustace and are aiming to compete higher up the table this time around.

What now for Derby County?

Derby County will want to retain the services of Zetterstrom amid attention from Brentford. DCFC would need to find a replacement if he left for the Bees.

The Rams have made a slow start to the new season. They lost their first two league games on the spin to Stoke City and Coventry City.

They then drew 1-1 at home to Bristol City last time out. New striker Carlton Morris, who joined from Luton Town, has made a positive impression so far and scored a late equaliser against the Robins.

Eustace’s side are back in action on Tuesday with a Carabao Cup away trip to Burnley. They then face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday.
