Following Man City’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham, Guardiola failed to commit to Trafford being his number one goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season, after the Englishman made a mistake that led to Spurs’ second goal of the contest.
It is now clear to see why, as Donnarumma is likely to take up that role, with Trafford learning from a goalkeeper many consider to be the best in the world after helping PSG to Champions League glory last season.

Pep Guardiola was visibly agitated by James Trafford during Tottenham match
Trafford’s error was a costly one during Man City’s defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, but that was bound to happen to a young goalkeeper during the early days of being at a big club and learning to be part of a new system.
However, that was not the only thing that would appear to annoy Guardiola, as the Daily Mail reports that the legendary coach was visibly agitated by his young goalkeeper not restarting the game quickly enough as Man City chased the game.
Trafford impressed everyone during his debut against Wolves, and errors were bound to be expected from the 22-year-old in the early days of moving to Manchester.
The situation the Englishman could find himself in seems harsh, and if Donnarumma arrives at the Etihad Stadium, Trafford could leave as early next summer, as he will not be able to achieve his goal of becoming England’s number one on the bench in Manchester.
