All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham after their huge win over Manchester City.
Tottenham picked up a huge win on Saturday when they defeated likely title candidates Manchester City. Thomas Frank’s men put on a resolute display and looked dangerous on the break, snatching a first goal on the break and taking advantage of a mistake in ruthless fashion for the second.
It will be a huge confidence boost for Frank’s men to pick up such a big win on the road, and it already looks as though this season will be very different from the last. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Spurs as we head into the last week of the transfer window.
Savinho talks restarted
Tottenham are said to be back on the Savinho case amid reported interest in the Manchester City winger. Pep Guardiola has made it clear he wants to keep the hard-working Brazilian, but Spurs are not giving up as they search for a replacement for Heung-min Son.
TeamTalk have reported that Tottenham made a fresh approach for Savinho on Saturday and that there has been a positive round of talks. Spurs would likely have to pay big to land Savinho, but they have money to spend going into the last week of the window.
Bissouma exit on the cards
Yves Bissouma is a player who could well leave Tottenham this summer, now in the final year of his contract, and Galatasaray are said to be interested. Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük told Futbol Arena via SportWitness: “Galatasaray management clearly decided that a midfielder would be a good option, so as not to be left out of the woodwork later in the season.
“This was discussed with coach Okan. Now, Galatasaray wants to bring in a player on loan in that area. Because, as I said, they’ll be allocating their transfer budget to center-backs next year and also spending on goalkeepers, so they want to loan a midfielder.
“At this point, Galatasaray’s primary target is Bissouma; the player is ready to come to Turkey. Tottenham is ready to let him out of his contract. But the only disagreement here is that Tottenham want to sell. Galatasaray want to loan him for a transfer fee. If Galatasaray manages to convince the English club at that point, they will sign him.”
Frank on City win
Speaking after his side’s win over City, Frank said: “Very delighted. Extremely proud of the players' performance. I think it was an exceptionally good performance. I think the first 35 minutes, we know a couple of things, we know it's always difficult to play against City. Here at the Etihad it's even more difficult. The first 35 minutes I thought was fairly even, but with City on top, I think they were more on top than us. There was a big mentality shift in terms of staying in the game and keeping doing what we wanted to do, scoring a great goal. Maybe that changed a little bit of momentum, but we definitely stayed on top and went 2-0 up.
“Second half, I think we were very good. The big spell where we could think that they would put pressure on us, I think we were very aggressive in the high pressure, that we were very front-footed, with the mindset to constantly go for the 3-0 goal.
“And then, then I must say, that the clean sheet makes me very happy. It's a big thing we've been working on, not on clean sheets as that's easier said than done, but on the defensive side of the game, high pressure, middle block, low block, defend the box mentality, blocking shots, everything, because if you get clean sheets you're closer to winning a game and also last year we had six cleans, so yeah, that's very big for me."
