Newcastle United make approach to sign striker – Door edged open for late Magpies move

On July 19th, Foot Mercato reported Newcastle United are expected to go on the offensive to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Three days later, Corriere dello Sport reported the Magpies have knocked on PSG’s door for the striker. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Juventus, who are keen on extending his stay.

Fast forward to August and Tuttosport mentions Newcastle’s interest when covering the latest on Juventus’ pursuit of Kolo Muani.

Juventus’ desire is to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy if certain set conditions are met. The total package, including the loan fee, is around €45m.

Tuttosport claim the Turin club want the Champions League qualification as a condition to make the 26-year-old’s stay permanent. This doesn’t please the treble winners as they aren’t certain of Juve’s qualification. PSG are only willing to accept it if the obligation to buy is set at €70m.

This is where the deal is currently stuck, and therefore, every door will remain open until the window closes. This allows Newcastle or another club to make a late move for the France international.

Juve general manager Damien Comolli remains optimistic because Kolo Muani only wants to join his side.

Tuttosport reports Newcastle and an unnamed Saudi Arabian club made an approach to sign him. In order to fulfil his wish to return to the Serie A club, the frontman is ‘forgoing rich options’ like Eddie Howe’s side and a Saudi club.

He’s played his cards and despite the current deadlock, is confident that the two clubs will find an agreement.

Juve are facing complications, and that can give Newcastle hope of securing Kolo Muani’s services late in this window, also because PSG have left the door open.
