City agree personal terms with Champions League winner as Tsquad rebuild continues

Gianluigi Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with Manchester City as he looks to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The Italy captain is no longer part of Luis Enrique’s plans in Paris despite playing a key role in PSG’s first Champions League triumph last season.

PSG have already secured a replacement, signing 23-year-old Lucas Chevalier from Lille in a deal worth up to €55m.

That move has paved the way for Donnarumma’s departure, with City moving quickly to strike an agreement with the 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that Donnarumma has shaken hands on a contract with City and is eager to play under Pep Guardiola.

Negotiations are now ongoing between the club and PSG, with the fee expected to fall below the French club’s initial €50m valuation.

City, however, cannot finalise the transfer until they make space in their squad by offloading Ederson.

The Brazilian is valued at around €35m and is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Talks have been held with Galatasaray, but progress has slowed after the Turkish side shifted their focus towards Porto’s Diogo Costa.

An early bid worth €10m was swiftly rejected, and Galatasaray are yet to return with a more convincing offer.

Ederson has recently returned to the squad and was on the bench for City’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Galatasaray also retain an interest in defender Manuel Akanji and are in discussions over a possible £15m deal.

Until Ederson’s future is resolved, City cannot complete the Donnarumma transfer, though optimism remains that a breakthrough will be found before the window closes.

Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer from Milan in 2021 and has since made over 100 appearances for the French champions.

He struggled to fully settle in Paris but departs having played a major part in their historic European success last season.

The Italian was visibly emotional as he waved goodbye to supporters at the Parc des Princes on Friday night.

For City, Donnarumma is seen as a long-term successor in goal, with his commanding presence and shot-stopping ability considered ideal for Guardiola’s system.

The final stages of the transfer now rest on whether Ederson can be moved on in the final week of the market.
