Senne Lammens already ticked Ineos' most important box months ago ahead of £17m Man United move

Manchester United are looking to wrap up a deal for exciting goalkeeping talent Senne Lammens before the end of the window.

There is just one week to go until the summer transfer window slams shut and Manchester United still have plenty of business to do.

Ineos have spent close to £200m on four major signings so far this window, but Ruben Amorim is still looking to bring in a new goalkeeper in the shape of Senne Lammens.

Altay Bayindir will look to leave United after his heavily criticised performance against Arsenal in the opening match.

United are advancing in talks with Lammens and are hoping to wrap up a deal worth around £17 million with Royal Antwerp.

Senne Lammens has already shown exactly what Man United are looking for

After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season and missing out on European football, United felt it was important to only sign players who desperately wanted to join.

Sporting director Jason Wilcox says every signing was keen to join, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all turning down other offers to make a move to Old Trafford.

The good news for United and Ineos is that Lammens is following a similar pattern.

Back in July when rumours first started circling, reports claimed Lammens “would jump” at the chance to join United, with the player even discussing the move publicly.

Lammens spoke about moving to United, saying: “The first time I heard it, I thought: Wow. Immediately a world team that follows you. That is special.”

Now, Lammens is set to miss Antwerp’s game as he inches closer to completing a move to Old Trafford. Personal terms are no issue and both clubs are getting closer and closer to a full agreement.

Why Man United wanted Senne Lammens over other goalkeepers

Earlier this summer, United made a loan bid for Emiliano Martinez and there have also been links to Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Given that Martinez and Donnarumma are widely considered two of the best shot-stoppers in the world, the move for Lammens has raised a few eyebrows.

However, there are red flags around the Donnarumma move, and United have been stung before when going for players who are no longer wanted by elite European clubs.

Instead, United have stuck to their own transfer philosophy and are pursuing one of the most talented young goalkeeper prospects on the continent.

Lammens has Peter Schmeichel-esque qualities and boasts one of the best shot-saving rates in European football. At just 23 years old, United are potentially signing a goalkeeper for the next decade.
