The Pittsburgh Steelers have released former North Carolina defensive back Kyler McMichael as part of their 11 cuts on Friday.
McMichael joined the team during training camp but was released shortly after its conclusion and never found a place in the NFL on a practice squad for the entire season. As a result, he looped right back around to the Steeler sat the season’s conclusion.
However, he did not show all that much in training camp, stopping his roster push right in its tracks. He never got above the third string on defense.
An undrafted free agent out of North Carolina in the 2022 NFL Draft, McMichael signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to start his career. When the Buccaneers cut him, McMichael spent most of his time with the Buffalo Bills on their practice squad and would be claimed off waivers when the Bills released him in 2023.
The Cardinals claimed the 6-foot McMichael, but he did not spend much time with the Cardinals after suffering an injury. He did not play the rest of the 2023 season before the Steelers snapped him up on July 30.
