Report: Club preparing formal bid to sign Chelsea's Tyrique George despite Roma enquiry

It will be fascinating to see if Tyrique George is still a Chelsea player by the time the summer transfer window closes on 1 September.

Tyrique George, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, broke into the first-team picture last season under Enzo Maresca. Even though he played 26 senior games for the Blues, the 19-year-old winger is linked with a potential exit this summer to go and pursue more regular football.

George is prepared to leave boyhood club Chelsea to progress his career. Apparently, the club would be prepared to sell him even though their preference is for him to stay. If sold, the English teenager would bring in pure profit for the club’s financial books.

Roma ask about Tyrique George, but RB Leipzig preparing offer

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports via X that Italian giants Roma have just enquired about a potential deal for Chelsea youngster George. They face competition from German club RB Leipzig and unnamed Premier League sides, though.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are willing to sanction George’s exit on loan or a permanent basis if the right opportunity emerges.

They report that Bundesliga outfit Leipzig are now preparing a ‘formal offer’ for George worth in excess of €15m (£13m). The Blues attacker could be offered a long-term deal that runs for four or five years, too.

Back in May, George admitted his ultimate goal is to play football, whether that’s at Chelsea or somewhere else. Therefore, it shouldn’t be the biggest surprise that he could be a late mover this summer.

Joe Shields could be gutted if Tyrique George leaves

Joe Shields, Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent, may be one senior figure at Stamford Bridge frustrated by the George saga.

It was reported earlier this year that Shields has been a massive advocate of George behind the scenes.

The left-winger was fully integrated into the senior group last season, scoring three goals and creating five assists for Maresca’s team. It’s hard to picture him nailing down a permanent starting spot at this moment, though.

We believe that George still has an extremely high ceiling, and loaning him out for a year would be the smartest move, but a permanent offer could soon be on the table to cash in for a sizeable profit.
