Tottenham are looking to bring in a new attacking midfielder following James Maddison’s untimely injury
Tottenham have managed to carve out a way and win the first two games of the new Premier League season. All the credit goes to the players after showing enough fight to beat two strong opponents in the first two weeks of the campaign. But one must not forget that Thomas Frank has also managed to get his players adapt to his system in such a short amount of time.
However, there are still some glaring issues in the middle of the pitch that need addressing before the transfer window shuts. The lack of a natural #10 will come out to hurt Spurs in more ways than one in the future if a new attacking midfielder is not brought in quickly. With James Maddison out for most parts of the season after rupturing his ACL, Daniel Levy must look to bring in a replacement quickly.
Tottenham are looking to bring in a new attacking midfielder following James Maddison's untimely injury.
Tottenham are strongly considering to make a move for Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz in the coming days.
As of now, Thomas Frank has deployed Pape Matar Sarr in the #10 role for Spurs in the first two games of the season. And it is fair to say that the Senegal international has done a tremendous job in helping the Lilywhites win the ball back higher up the pitch and score goals during transitions.
Tottenham keeping tabs on Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are looking to sign Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz in the coming days. The Morocco international did not get enough game time under Carlo Ancelotti last season due to intense competition. And this season looks no different for the 26-year-old under Xabi Alonso. The report also stated that Diaz is on Thomas Frank’s wish-list, but the attacker wants to stay at the Bernabeu.
However, football expert Andy Brassell wants Spurs to test the waters for the Real Madrid star as the hunt for a new #10 goes on. Speaking on Sky Sports, Brassell said,
“I just wonder what Spurs’ options are now, really. If you’re looking at Europe, because there aren’t a whole lot of number 10s out there, I wonder if it’s worth a little go for Brahim Diaz.”
The football expert added,
“Brahim Diaz is someone who was at Manchester City, he’s won leagues in three different countries, he’s a match-changer in all the big matches that he plays, he’s 26, and he can’t get in the Real Madrid XI. To me, that looks like a bit of Spurs.”
Andy Brassell points out that there are not a lot of quality #10’s left in the transfer market for Tottenham to look at. However, the football expert adds that the Lilywhites could still go for Brahim Diaz and try and lure him out of Real Madrid. Brassell believes that the Morocco international is a serial winner and can change the match instantly, which is exactly what Spurs need right now.
It is fair to suggest that Brahim Diaz would fit in perfectly under Thomas Frank. The 26-year-old offers creativity in the final third of the pitch, while working hard to win the ball back as well. Not only that, but the Real Madrid star is versatile enough to play as a #10, or as a right-winger. These qualities, along with his ability to dribble past opposition defenders, will help Thomas Frank in more ways than one.
Spurs are also interested in another Real Madrid star, Rodrygo. Will either of the stars end up at Tottenham come the end of the summer window? Time will tell.
