What Brendan Rodgers has said about Celtic future amid Nottingham Forest links

Brendan Rodgers is adamant he won’t walk out on Celtic a second time amid suggestions he could leave for Nottingham Forest.

Rodgers was named as a surprise contender to take over at the City Ground on Sunday amid the serious concerns over Nuno Espirito Santo’s future as Forest manager.

The Portuguese boss has openly discussed a weakening of the relationship between him and the hierarchy and there are reports of a dispute with the club’s global head of football Edu Gaspar.

As such, his future beyond Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace is in doubt.

Names have started to be thrown around over potential successors, with Leicester City’s FA Cup-winning manager Rodgers put forward.

It’s suggested that he could leave Celtic Park amid a lack of signings and with their Champions League place under threat following a goalless draw at home in the first leg of their play-off against Kazakh side Kairat.

But having walked out on the club before to join Leicester in 2019, Rodgers has insisted there will be no repeat.

“Absolutely no chance,” said Rodgers. “No chance. We've done that one before. It didn't go down well!

“Listen, I said from the first day and there's no hidden messages and there's no this and that. I said I'd be here three years. I'm here for three years.”

Rodgers is now into the final season of his three-year deal, having won four domestic trophies, including two Scottish Premiership titles, in the previous two years.

During four years at Leicester, Rodgers won the FA Cup, twice guided the club to fifth-placed finishes and reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

However, he also oversaw the majority of their first relegation out of the division, the Northern Irishman sacked in April 2023 with the club in the bottom three.
