Hammers’ midfielder to follow Alvarez out the door – bid received

Graham Potter got his wish when Edson Alvarez – a UCL medal winner from the 2023 campaign – was shipped out unceremoniously on-loan with hardly a ‘thank you’ to Turkish side Fenerbahce. Perhaps Alvarez – captain of Mexico – was too ‘unyielding’ for Potters management style or perhaps it was simply a footballing decision based on el Machin’s admittedly poor season, limited pace and dreadful yellow card propensity.

West Ham fans still wait in vain to see who will be coming in to replace the Mexican – with one week of the window remaining it is a symptom of the paralysis gripping the club that dozens of names are mentioned yet nobody appears at the training ground gates.

Now Andy Irving is set to be the next West Ham midfielder heading out of the door before the end of the window- according to this morning’s report in footballleagueworld.co.uk who confirm a Wrexham bid is already in at West Ham HQ for the Scot, confounding the Rangers and Celtic reported interest of earlier in the week.

“Wrexham have tabled bids for[ Southampton’s Will Smallbone, Rennes midfielder Jordan James] and West Ham United’s Andy Irving respectively.

Which will leave the resources a bit thin on the ground – especially with the rumoured links for Guido Rodriguez to head to La Liga. James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek appear to be the ‘last ones standing’ in West Ham’s midfield making for an even more nervy last week of the transfer window.

Call me cynical but I still expect to hear Josh Brownhill has been added to the squad at the 11th hour once the clearout is complete, especially now ‘officially’ knowing who is running West Ham’s non-existent transfer – erm – ‘strategy’.

But even so, there has to be ‘incoming’ next week if the Hammers are even to put up token resistance for the next thirty six Premier League fixtures. Nail biting stuff.
